| Corbert Gauthier |
Corbert Gauthier lives in Minneapolis with his wife, and they are the proud parents of three grown children. An illustrator since his graduation from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1983, he has received awards from the Society of Illustrators, Print Regional Design Annual and Communication Arts Illustration Annual.
Corbert specializes in traditional oil painting techniques. He places a major emphasis on the drawing stage of each project and feels the foundation is a key element in any successful painting. Once the drawing is developed to his satisfaction, he completes a detailed underpainting on either a carefully prepared masonite panel, gessoed illustration board or linen canvas. When the underpainting is complete, he begins laying in color, gradually building to the finish with a combination of opaque paint and glazing techniques.
During his career he has worked for a wide variety of corporate, advertising and publishing clients. Recently he devoted much of his time to book illustration and to work with Biblical themes. Corbert considers himself very fortunate to be able to make a living doing what he loves. He states that, “The digital world is a wonderful thing but it has come at a great cost to traditional illustration. I hope we never lose an appreciation for hand-done drawing or painting.”
Corbert has done illustration and painting projects for General Mills, Target Corporation, 3M, Nabisco, Danbury Mint, Quaker Oats, LucasFilms, Pfizer, National Geographic, Public Television, Lifeway Christian Resources and American Greetings to name a few.
