 For pastel artist Pamela Luer, the mission is simple: Bring the beauty, elegance and joy of fine art to every day life.
“I know some people say “good art shouldn’t match your sofa,” jokes Luer. “As a fine artist, I appreciate the sentiment. But I also believe art can and should be part of our every day lives. And if it matches your furniture, hey, more power to it.”
In support of this notion, Luer (pronounced “lure”, as in the fishing kind) created her Here On Earth™ brand—a growing collection of licensed products that embrace the beauty of the natural world. From rugs and textiles to dinnerware, gifts and home décor products, a Pam Luer creation, fashioned with house paint, pastels and ink on museum-grade sandpaper, celebrates the rhythm and beauty of the natural world by emphasizing its unique colors, textures and patterns.
“This natural beauty is all around us,” explains Luer. “I want my work to make it practical for everyone to bring that beauty home with them.”
A full-time artist for more than a decade now, Pam began her work life inside as a graphic designer. As a result, she brings a business savvy not found in every artist.
“I love studying trends and color forecasts,” she explains. “And collaborating with manufacturers and art directors on product design can be very motivating. Plus, my corporate background has really taught me to respect a deadline.” This hyper-responsible, low-maintenance work ethic has won her rave reviews among left-brained industry types used to the more “free-wheeling” (deadline and direction-averse) nature of some right-brained artistic types.
“No question, I love to create beautiful, nuanced artwork,” Luer admits. “But I also want people to see and enjoy it. That’s why I’m always thinking, ‘How will this look on a set of dishes? Will it make a pretty dish towel? I want to get my art into people’s hands—literally”.
Luckily, Pam’s work has passed through millions of hands, and homes, through her many licensed products with companies like Target, Joanne Fabrics, Michaels, JC Penney, Crate and Barrel, TJ Maxx, QVC and more.
“I’m not sure if all my art will match everyone’s sofas,” says Luer with a smile, “but I do have proof that my fine art goes great with fine dining.”
When not creating beautiful art, Pam likes to travel, ride her bike, do yoga and spend time with her friends, her husband and her two cats, Ben and Toast.
